A suspect linked to an assault incident at the Zanzou nightclub in Pretoria is set to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The Congolese national was arrested in Yeoville, Johannesburg, over a week ago after a video surfaced showing a group of men being physically and sexually assaulted at the nightclub. So far, six complainants have come forward. During his initial court appearance last Monday, the accused claimed he had been tortured by police. He faces eight counts of compelled sexual assault and six counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Appearing in court wearing a black face mask, he was not identified by the media as a second identity parade is still to be conducted. The state is also verifying documents submitted in court to confirm whether he is legally in the country. He remains in police custody.
