Gauteng Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile says law enforcement officers will crack down on non-compliant spaza shops and food-handling outlets from today including those that failed to register. He says over 15 000 of these businesses have been deemed non-compliant and almost 500 of them closed immediately. Friday was the deadline for all owners of spaza shops and food-handling outlets to register their businesses. Maile says non-compliance has been the main challenge in the registration process. You will see the police, we will be raiding. We will be joining them. We are going to close those spaza shops. We will be leading those raids with the police,” says Maile.
